As we step over the threshold into a new year—and a brand-new 9-year numerological cycle—you might feel the nudge to pause, breathe, and look back before you leap forward.

This isn’t your typical “New Year, New You” post (because I think you're awesome just the way you are). This is about honouring what’s been, letting go of what’s done, and calling yourself back into alignment.

In tarot terms? We’re moving from the Hermit—deep reflection, inner wisdom, and transformation—into the energy of the Wheel of Fortune and The Magician. That means: big shifts, divine timing, and the power to create what comes next.

But before we set intentions, let’s pause for something even more powerful: reflection with compassion.

Why the 9-Year Cycle Matters

In numerology, every year holds an energetic vibration. 2025 is a 9 year—a time of closure, endings, and completion. It's the final chapter in a longer journey you've been walking since 2016.

2026? It’s a 1 year. A beginning. A fresh cycle.

But here’s the thing: you can’t fully step into what’s next if you’re still dragging around old stories, stuck identities, or unprocessed emotions.

That’s where this 9-Year Reflection Tarot Spread comes in.

A Tarot Spread to Close the Chapter

This spread is designed to help you reflect on what’s unfolded over the past 9 years, what you’ve outgrown, what you’ve learned, and what you're finally ready to let go of. Think of it as a mirror, a ritual, and a conversation with your true self.

The 9-Year Reflection Spread

Pull one card for each of the following:
  1. Where I began in this cycle (9 years ago)
  2. The greatest challenge I’ve overcome
  3. A gift I didn’t see until now
  4. What I’ve outgrown
  5. What I’m still carrying that I no longer need
  6. A truth about myself that emerged
  7. A part of me that’s ready to be honored and released
  8. The wisdom I carry forward
  9. A blessing that wants to be acknowledged before I close this cycle

How to Lay It Out

Place the card in three rows of three. Light a candle, take your time, and don’t rush the process. This isn’t about “doing it right”—it’s about being honest with what’s there.

A Few Tips Before You Pull Your Cards

  • You don’t need to remember everything. Let the cards reflect back what you already know, deep down.
  • Be gentle. If something heavy comes up, pause. Breathe. This is a space of witnessing, not fixing.
  • Journal your thoughts. Capture what comes up—it might not make sense now, but it will later.
  • Do it on your time. No pressure to do this on New Year’s Eve. The energy of reflection lingers through January (and beyond).

What Happens After the Spread?

Once you've pulled and reflected, try this:
  • Write a letter to the “you” from 9 years ago. Thank her/him.  You'll be surprised how much compassion and gratitude you have for that version of yourself - you wouldn't be where you are today without what they started.
  • Make a list of what you're ready to leave behind. Then thank all the things on that list as they helped you grow. Afterwards, burn it (safely), bury it, or throw it away. You no loner have to keep holding onto that energy.
  • Choose one card from your spread that you want to carry forward. Place it on your altar or somewhere you'll see it in January.

Final Thoughts: This Isn’t About Resolutions that Make you Feel Like You're Punishing Yourself

This is about letting go.
This is about recognition.
This is about stepping into 2026 with a more aligned version of you.
You’ve lived a whole era. You’ve done the work. And you’re still here—give yourself a giant hug.
Now is your moment to pause, reflect, and walk forward with intention.  ❤️
